What a year 2020 has been! It was a stressful, unpredictable, and bleak year for many. With some positive news around vaccinations for coronavirus, life returning to normal doesn’t seem like it will be too far away, making the year 2021 the year to do all that you want to.
Although things aren’t going to be as they were right away, there are a number of things that you can do to get yourself off to a good start, and that all starts in January 2021. Here are the things that you can do to make the most of it.
1. Go Outdoors
Even though it can be cold in January, it doesn’t mean that you need to stay indoors. We did enough staying indoors in 2020, that you should make the most of all that the outdoors has to offer you.
Winter sports like skiing, snowboarding, and sledding are so fun, if you live in an area where this is possible. But even just getting out for a walk around your city, a walk in the woods, or a run around your local park, getting outdoors can do such good things for your mental wellbeing and outlook.
2. Minimize
A clean and tidy home is a place that is easier to live in. What better way to start off the new year than starting off with a clean and clear home? Reducing clutter and minimizing can help you to have more space, create a more calm living space, and help you mentally too.
Throwing everything away isn’t always necessary, though. You could give away to thrift stores, give to others, or put items in a local storage unit to store until you need them again. Self-storage units can be a big help when it comes to minimizing in the home.
3. Treat Yourself
After the year that we have all had, there is no excuse needed for treating yourself in January. It could be that you find something that you’ve wanted for a while on sale, or that you book yourself in for a massage or spa day. Treats will look different for different people, but start the year off in a positive way, by treating yourself.
4. Learn about Hygge
Hygge, pronounced hue-gah, is a Danish word for a cozy and comfortable way of living, with lots of feelings of wellness and contentment. When you learn more about it, you will see that it is all about decluttering, minimizing what you do and what you have, and doing the things that truly make you happy.
As a lifestyle concept, it really is a fantastic thing to learn about, and could be just what you need to get the new year off to a good start.
5. Connect with People You Love
We may have loved and lost this year, and not seen the people that we love nearly as much as we would like to. So where possible, get together with your loved ones. If that isn’t possible, then stay as connected as you can be.
Talking on the phone can be therapy in itself, and even sending funny photos or memes can be a fun way to stay connected. FaceTime and Zoom are so helpful, and you could always send out cards or care packages to loved ones to let them know that you are thinking of them. It will help you to feel good as well as helping them.
6. Volunteer
This past year has been bleak in many ways, but one positive is that it has shone a light on others, and made us realize what we do and don’t actually need in life. If you are looking to make the most of the new year, then think about volunteering.
You could volunteer with a local charity or if you have skills and talents to offer, then volunteer those too. Donations are always helpful to charities too. All of which will leave you feeling happy and content.
Small things can really improve your mindset, which is what we are all going to need after the year that we have had. Starting fresh with the state of your home, your time, your mood, and your mindset are all things that are going to get your new year off to a positive start.
Focus on others, focus on yourself, and focus on making January 2021 the fresh start that you want and need.
